Just got back from an amazing tour through the midwest with the fine folks at Venables, Bell & Partners.  We shot in Kansas City, MO, Amarillo, TX and Albuquerque, NM, ate BBQ pretty much everywhere, and even got up in a hot air balloon.  Our stylist Monique Bean found these hats for our crew photo at The Big Texan in Amarillo, home of the 72 ounce steak challenge.  Thankfully nobody on our crew tried to eat the giant steak in 60 minutes.  It was a great trip but we were all looking forward to some fresh vegetables by the time we got back to LA.

I took part in a really great group exhibition last month, the first annual Instagram Jam,  organized by my friend Shaughn Crawford (@shaughncrawford) and sponsored by The Lucie Foundation as part of MOPLA (Month of Photography Los Angeles).  I was in good company with the likes of Frank Ockenfels (@fwo3) Theron Humphrey (@thiswildidea) and Sian Kennedy (@thirstynomad) among others.  My installation featured my  favorite iphone aerial images from the past year of travel.

Just as I was sitting in front of my computer this morning prepping a few blog entries to try to catch up on things an email popped in to my inbox that hit me like a punch to the stomach.  Hasselblad has decided to discontinue it’s V line of film cameras.  First world problems I know but I was surprised at how it made me feel reading the article in the British Journal of Photography.   I worked exclusively with the camera pictured above, the 503CW and the 501 before that for almost 20 years before slowly migrating to a digital workflow for most of my work.  Most, if not all, of the best photographs of my career were made with this camera.  I know things change and we evolve and move on but I couldn’t let this news pass without taking a moment to reflect on it and really register what this means.  I’ve never felt more like it really is the end of an era.

Just got back from spending some time in BC working on a project in the mountains. It involved helicopters and skiing.  It made me very happy.

The story I shot on the ultra exclusive Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana is out in Bloomberg Pursuit Magazine.  Three days of skiing the “private powder” at the resort was one of the highlights of last winter for sure.
